Wadebridge Bikelights to return and shine brightly
One of Wadebridge's most colourful community events is making a welcome return this autumn as Wadebridge Bikelights rides back into town on Saturday 17th October, setting off at 6.30pm.

First held in 2014, Bikelights quickly became a much-loved annual tradition, bringing together families, friends and cyclists of all ages to celebrate the arrival of autumn with a spectacular illuminated ride through the town. Now, after a short break, the event is back for 2026 and promises to be brighter than ever.
Organised jointly by Wadebridge Town Team and The Cornwall Bicycle Project, with support from Wadebridge Coasters Cycling Club, Cycling UK and The Wadebridge Bike Shop, and generously sponsored by WREN, the event is open to everyone. Whether you ride every day or simply dust your bike off a few times a year, you're invited to decorate your bicycle with lights and join this year's procession.
The theme for 2026 is "Shine Brightly." It's a simple message with two meanings – a chance to let your imagination sparkle, with colourful lights and decorations, while also highlighting the importance of being visible and staying safe when cycling during the darker months.
Wadebridge has earned a reputation as one of Cornwall's premier cycling destinations. The Camel Trail, one of the country's most successful traffic-free cycling routes, has helped transform the town into a thriving cycling hub, attracting visitors from across the UK and beyond. Combined with miles of quiet country lanes, family-friendly routes, cycle hire, retail and repair services, and a passionate local cycling community, Wadebridge offers something for riders of every age and ability.
Bikelights celebrates that heritage while looking to the future. The event aims to encourage more people to enjoy cycling, promote safe and responsible riding, and showcase everything Wadebridge has to offer as a welcoming town for residents and visitors alike.
To help riders prepare for the evening procession, The Cornwall Bicycle Project and The Wadebridge Bike Shop will both be offering free bicycle safety checks during the day. It's an ideal opportunity to ensure your bike is roadworthy, check your lights are working properly and pick up a few helpful cycling tips before setting off.
The illuminated ride itself promises to be a fantastic spectacle, with families, friends, community groups and visitors creating a river of light through the streets of Wadebridge. Spectators are warmly encouraged to come along and cheer the riders on, helping to create a memorable evening for everyone involved.
Safety will remain at the heart of the event. Children taking part must wear a cycle helmet and be accompanied throughout the ride by a parent or responsible adult. Experienced ride leaders and rolling marshals will accompany the procession, helping participants enjoy the event safely, particularly on the sections of the route that use public roads. Further details, including the route, meeting point and participant guidance, will be published nearer the event.
So charge those lights, gather your family and friends, and help Wadebridge shine brightly on Saturday 17th October.
