Mozart’s Sweet Treats – a Taste of Mozart, in Wadebridge!

Born in Salzburg, Austria in 1756, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers in history. Admired for the “elegance, richness of harmony and texture” in his music, Mozart forms the theme of Wadebridge Choral Society’s upcoming concert on Saturday 15 November.

Wadebridge Town Hall will be alive with the sounds of Vesperae solennes de confessore (Solem Vespers), a sacred choral composition and Missa Brevis in D, thought to have been composed for public worship in Salzburg Cathedral.

While the choir can’t bring the audience to Salzburg, we can bring Salzburg to you. Mozart may be better known for composing more than 800 works, but he was also the inspiration for a Salzburg confectioner, Paul Fürst, who in 1890 created Mozartkugeln, or ‘Mozart’s Balls’. These sweet treats, balls of marzipan, pistachio and nougat covered in dark chocolate became increasingly popular, and are still available as a “must try” when visiting, alongside spectacular views of the Eastern Alps and the beautiful medieval and baroque buildings. Two lucky audience members will find Mozartkugeln waiting for them at the concert on 15 November.

The choir will be accompanied by a Chamber Orchestra with accompanist Stephen Tyrrell and directed by Nicolas Danks, Musical Director of Wadebridge Choral Society as well as Director of Music at Corpus Christi - Cambridge. The choir is also delighted to welcome back soloists Rebecca Moon – Soprano, Rebecca Squire – Alto, Mark Hounsell – Tenor and Jacob Dennison – Bass.

Tickets, including refreshments are £18, or £16 if bought in advance (£5 for u16s). Contact Fiona May for details and tickets: jandfrmay@btinternet.com. Tickets will also be available at the Wadebridge Bookshop and at the door.
