While it may seem unusual to stumble across a beautiful woodland on the edge of an industrial estate, this is all part of the charm of Pennygillam Community Woodland, where the buzz of business in Pennygillam blends into the reassuring hum of nature when stepping foot onto the woodland’s leafy trails.
It’s an ideal space for everyone in the community to enjoy, whether you’re a walker looking to breathe in some fresh air, an artist looking for natural inspiration, or a family wanting to let the kids run free for an hour. It also has a designated Forest School area, run by Nature Nicki, giving youngsters and adults alike the opportunity to express themselves through engaging with the outdoors.
The woodland, which was established by the Forest for Launceston team, has now received a grant of £20,000, awarded to support ongoing efforts of the Woodland Working Party, which plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the site. The grant will enable the team to expand their outreach and create more opportunities for community involvement, and it is hoped that new volunteers will be welcomed on board in the coming months to strengthen the impact of their work.
The Woodland Working Party meets on the first Saturday of the month at 9am. All are welcome. For more information, see Forest for Launceston on Facebook.
