New community choir to start in Bodmin

Do you love to sing? A new Bodmin-based community mixed-voice choir starting in October may be just what you are looking for.

Bath music man Grenville Jones started his first Good Afternoon Choir back in 2009 in his home city. Now there are over 30 Good Afternoon Choirs across England and Wales with over 1,500 enthusiastic singers who love 'Singing in the Afternoon'.

Grenville said: “Our singers come from all walks of life and previous singing experience is not necessary, just come and give us a try. You’ll be home in time for the 6 o’clock news!”

Leading the Bodmin Good Afternoon Choir will be multi-talented musician and choir leader, Martin Palmer. Martin is a well-known and popular figure in Cornwall’s music scene who enjoys eating Maltesers in large quantities!  He explains that singing in a Good Afternoon Choir is for everyone. There are no auditions, the music is fun, varied, and for anyone attending the first rehearsal is free of charge.

The Bodmin Good Afternoon Choir will meet on Tuesdays from 2-4pm at St Petroc’s Parish Centre (Priory Road, Bodmin PL31 2DP – opposite St Petroc’s Church) and will launch on Tuesday October 7.

Grenville added: “Singing in the afternoon is brilliant, there is no hassle about driving in the dark and for further information on our choirs please see www.goodafternoonchoir.org. Come along and meet us.”
