Runners get ready for Treggy 7 race

Runners across the Launceston area and further afield are doing their last stretches in preparation for the annual Treggy 7 challenge - a 7-mile circular race around Launceston's town and surrounding villages on Sunday, 7th September.

Starting in the Town Square at 10am, hundreds of runners are expected to set off on the run, which first takes them downhill for half a mile, before turning left at Riverside and continuing on out of town to reach the road leading out to Newmills. From there, they will climb to Tregadillett, then there will be a steady downhill race via Treburseye, Upper Chapel, Moorland Road, St John's Road and Western Road, before reaching the finish line in the grounds of Launceston Castle.

The race is part of the Cornish Grand Prix and is organised by Launceston Road Runners. It attracts runners from across Devon and Cornwall every year, and has become one of the most anticipated local sporting events in the calendar. What's more, there is still time to sign up if you've been thinking about taking on this challenge.

If you're set to have a quiet Sunday on the day of the race and would like to show your support for those taking part, the best places to view the race and cheer on the runners are:

  • Launceston Town Square, 10am
  • Tregadillett, 10.15am to 11am
  • Castle grounds, 10.35am to 11.45am
  • Moorland Road, St John's Road, Western Road

To ensure the event can run safely, the following roads will be closed:

  • Between the Town Hall and the Square, 9.50am - 11.30am
  • Carbooth Lane, 10.20am-11.25am
  • Stop/Go boards will be in operation on Western Road between 10.25am and 11.25am. Minor traffic delays expected.

If you would like to set yourself a challenge and take part in the Treggy7 race on Sunday, 7th September, go to https://launcestonroadrunners.co.uk/treggy-7/ to sign up.
