Late Night Opening, Spooky Shadows and Creative Crafts at NMMC this half term

This October half term, National Maritime Museum Cornwall (NMMC) invites families to step into a world of shadows, stories, and seasonal surprises with a week of exciting activities designed to spark imaginations and celebrate the spooky season.

At the heart of the half term programme is shadow puppet show, White Horses and Whale Tales, specially created for the Museum by Starbox Theatre and Wilderness Music. The captivating performance is inspired by NMMC’s major exhibition, SURF!, and features lovable puppet, Duggie, who shares his stories from the sea.

Visitors can also get hands-on in the Museum’s Make and Take craft zone, where little ones can create their own puppet monster masterpieces to take home.

For those who love a challenge, the Morgawr Sensory Trail offers the chance to explore the galleries while hunting down hidden clues and surprises with a small

prize at the end.

Stuart Slade, Head of Public Programming at the museum, comments: “We’re looking forward to welcoming families and treating them to the most beautiful shadow puppet stories complete with original puppets and music. There will be lots of themed activities across the museum and some surprises along the way!”

The week culminates in special Halloween out-of-hours entertainment on Friday 31st October. There’s mythical Cornish tales and storytelling at 4.30pm and 5.30pm, and a Trick or Treat-themed Make and Take with potion making running from 4pm-6pm.

All activities are included in the cost of admission and there’s no need to book in advance. On paying the admission fee, visitors receive an Annual Pass, enabling them to return as many times as they wish for the following 12 months.
