Cornwall rescue appeals for home for Issy after year in care
K9 Crusaders Dog Welfare in Cornwall is making an urgent Christmas appeal for a loving home for Issy, a young Cane Corso who has spent more than a year in care after being abandoned at a vet in a distressed and painful condition.

When Issy first arrived, she was suffering from a severe case of cherry eye, alongside suspected entropion, a condition where the eyelids turn inward, causing constant pain and irritation. She required multiple corrective surgeries just to save her sight and allow her to live without discomfort. Despite this difficult start, Issy has shown extraordinary resilience and a gentle, affectionate nature.
A spokesperson for K9 Crusaders Dog Welfare said: “Issy has been through more than any dog should have to face, yet she remains sweet, friendly and full of character. She has recovered so well from her surgeries and is more than ready for a fresh start. We would be over the moon to see her finally find the loving home she’s been waiting for.”
Issy has now spent just over a year in rescue care, slowly recovering not only from her surgeries but also from the long-term discomfort and emotional upheaval she endured before arriving at K9 Crusaders. Staff describe her as a bright, affectionate dog who enjoys attention, treats, and interaction with her carers. Her gentle, cheeky personality has made her a favourite at the rescue, yet adoption offers simply haven’t come.
K9 Crusaders believe that Issy’s medical history may deter some adopters, even though she has now fully recovered and is thriving. They hope this appeal will help potential adopters look beyond her past and see the loving, resilient, eager-to-bond dog she is today.
Issy would suit adopters who can offer:
- A stable, calm environment
- Plenty of affection and routine
- Patience as she settles into home life
- A commitment to her ongoing wellbeing
Her carers say she blossoms with attention and responds beautifully to kindness and reassurance.
Issy’s story is being highlighted as part of DoggyWarriors’ national “Hope for Christmas” campaign, which shines a light on eight dogs across the UK who have been waiting over a year for a home. The campaign aims to raise awareness rather than competition; all participating charities receive equal support through DoggyLottery.
“Dogs like Issy are so often forgotten simply because they need a bit of extra care or have had a difficult past,” says Lisette van Riel, founder of DoggyWarriors. “But these dogs are often the most loving companions once they’re given a chance. We hope that by sharing Issy’s story with the Cornwall community, the right person will finally see her.”
With the festive season approaching, K9 Crusaders hope that Issy might finally be noticed by someone who can offer her the care, comfort and stability she deserves.
“Issy is ready for the next chapter of her life,” says Lisette. “She has waited long enough and what a gift it would be to see her welcomed into a forever home this Christmas.”
