Cornwall Heritage Trust’s Heritage Champion Awards shine a light on these remarkable people and the lasting difference they make.

One of last year’s winners, Audrey Aylmer, has been keeping the story of the Bude area alive for more than three decades. Audrey received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work as Archivist for the Bude-Stratton and District Old Cornwall Society, a role she has dedicated herself to for over 30 years.

Her careful stewardship has ensured that local history is gathered, recorded and preserved, and her research projects have helped bring the area’s past to life, including tracing those who served in both World Wars for anniversary commemorations. Audrey has also supported other organisations, such as Bude Heritage Centre, helping them research and present the story of the area.

Those who nominated her said her knowledge of Bude and Stratton is unparalleled, and that the impact of her work will be felt long into the future as the history she has so conscientiously protected continues to guide and inspire generations to come.

Stories like Audrey’s show how deeply people care about the heritage of the Bude area, and why Cornwall Heritage Trust is proud to support and celebrate the volunteers who keep its history alive.

This autumn, even more of Cornwall’s unsung heritage heroes will receive the recognition they deserve at the next awards ceremony.
