With the recent wintry spells, the appearance of mince pies in bakeries and mulled wine in pubs, and the start of all familiar Christmas songs playing on the radio, Christmas is well and truly on the way – and with it brings the annual Christmas lights switch-on here in Falmouth.

Taking place on the evening of Thursday, 27th November, the event really gets the festive season off to a joyful start. Wrap up warm, grab a hot chocolate or mulled wine, and gather with friends and family to watch the magic unfold.
Sing Choir Cornwall will be beginning the celebrations from 5.15pm, before the Christmas parade sets off from Events Square, making its way to The Moor, from around 5.40pm. Local schoolchildren will be performing much-loved Christmas carols on The Moor in anticipation of the lights switch-on.
Mayor of Falmouth, Cllr Alan Jewell, will also be leading an illuminated tractor parade through the town, setting off from Events Square at 5.30pm before finishing at The Moor.
Each year, Falmouth’s Christmas lights are switched on by a worthy community nominee, and earlier in the autumn Falmouth BID encouraged people to send in their nominations. On Wednesday, it was announced that Danny Trick will be doing the honours.
Danny is involved in many important community events and organisations, from Falmouth Carnival which was such a success this summer, to Falmouth Marine Band and Falmouth Rugby Club.
He is described as ‘someone who always lifts others up rather than seeking the spotlight’ - making this a fitting responsibility and well-deserved recognition for Danny.
Danny will be switching on the lights at 7pm, before The Oggymen begin their live performance to round-off a perfectly Christmassy evening in Falmouth.
