Feel the magic of Christmas at Egloshayle Church

Egloshayle Church has some wonderful events planned this festive season, bringing light, hope and the true spirit of Christmas right to your doorstep.

Silent night, holy night...

Originally, a carol was a ring dance with a singing accompaniment and the songs were later found in Miracle Plays. During Cromwell’s time, many carols were preserved in folk songs. Nowadays the best known carol service is from King’s College Chapel. It opens with ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ and was first broadcast on the radio in 1930. Here are some local carol concerts taking place this festive season...

Advent Carol Service – Sunday 30th November, 6pm, St Breoke Church. Celebrate the beginning of the season of Advent with a service of carols, readings and prayers. All are warmly welcome — come and share in the hope, peace, and joy of this special season.

Carols in the Churchyard - Wednesday, 17th December, 6pm, Egloshayle Church. Get into the Christmas spirit with an informal outdoor carol service under the winter skies! Bring your torches and lanterns as the community gathers to celebrate the birth of Christ, and raise their voices together in much-loved Christmas carols. Hot chocolate and mince pies will be waiting to warm you up! If it's too wet or chilly, the service will take place in the church.

Carols by Candlelight - Sunday, 21st December, 6pm, Egloshayle Church. Enjoy a candlelit evening of carols and Bible readings to celebrate the hope, peace, and joy at the heart of the Christmas story. With traditional carols, timeless scriptures, and a warm, festive atmosphere, this is a special time to pause, reflect, and rejoice together. All are welcome!

Live Nativity

On Christmas Eve, Egloshayle Church welcomes the community for their popular live Nativity, featuring friendly animals, a festive setting, and a timeless story brought to life. It's a magical way to begin the countdown until Christmas morning, and an event your little ones will love. Children are invited to dress up as their favourite Nativity character, from angels, stars and wisemen, to Mary, Joseph and the donkey. Expect Christmas carols, photo opportunities with the Nativity scene (don't forget your camera) and seasonal treats and refreshments. The live Nativity service will take place at Egloshayle Church at 4pm on Christmas Eve.
