Falmouth Town Council launches youth council

Falmouth Town Council is inviting young people to apply for its newly established Youth Council, offering an opportunity to influence decisions and make a meaningful impact in the local community.

Open to those aged 11–17 living within a three-mile radius of Falmouth, the Falmouth Youth Council will bring together sixteen young people to represent their peers and work alongside town councillors. The programme will run for one year, with an awards ceremony at the end to recognise participants’ achievements.

Members will meet monthly in the Council Chamber from 5pm to 7pm, with refreshments provided. Youth councillors will take the lead in shaping meetings, identifying the issues that matter most to young people in Falmouth, and delivering a major project designed to address those concerns.

Participants will also gain access to additional opportunities, including events, trips, and guest speakers. They will work directly with councillors, presenting their ideas and research at official town council meetings.

This initiative provides a platform for young people to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and create meaningful change in their community.

Applications are now open. Sixteen places are available, reflecting the number of Falmouth Town Councillors. Young people interested in having their voice heard and making a difference are encouraged to apply via the Falmouth Town Council website. All applications must be submitted using the online form and be supported by parental or guardian consent.
