The Salt Path, based on the poignant memoir of Raynor Winn, has been hitting cinemas recently, and you might just recognise some of the locations featured throughout the film.

Starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, The Salt Path follows couple Raynor and Moth as they decide to walk the 630-mile South West Coast Path as a way to come to terms with Moth’s terminal illness, and the recent loss of their home and livelihoods.
With only a tent and the essentials packed, Raynor and Moth embark on an incredible journey of strength and determination in the face of hardship.

The story is based on Raynor Winn’s best-selling memoir, recounting the time when she and her husband Moth set off from Minehead in Somerset along the South West Coast Path in August 2013, after losing their family farm in Wales. To make matters worse, the same week they lost their home, Moth was diagnosed with Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD). When the bailiffs came to the property, Raynor claimed to spot a guidebook to the South West Coast Path on the side, sparking an idea that might allow the couple to reap back some of their freedom.
The Salt Path is a poignant, at times heartbreaking story of courage, resilience and the connection between the human experience and nature.
Not surprisingly, many areas in Cornwall were featured in the film as Raynor and Moth continued their journey. Areas around Bude, Torpoint, Padstow, Port Isaac, Rame Head, Holywell Bay and Newquay were included in the filming locations between June and July 2023, with nature becoming ‘a character in its own right’., according to director Marianne Elliott.

The South West Coast Path is the UK’s longest National Trail, starting in Minehead, Somerset, following the coast around Devon and Cornwall, before reaching Poole in Dorset. According to the South West Coast Path Association, walking the coast path is the same as hiking Mount Everest four times!
