Quizmaster hits 10,000 quiz sales for local community centre

A Wadebridge quizmaster has sold an amazing 10,000 paper quizzes to help raise money for a local charity. Ian Baillie, who volunteers at Concern Wadebridge at The John Betjeman Centre, came up with the idea of selling a monthly quiz back in 2023.

Over the past two years there’s been several different themes from films, music, comedy and even body parts!

The £10,000 raised from the quizzes has gone towards different projects including building a repair shop, toilet renovations, the new kitchen and now the Glow Up Project to give the centre a facelift with new carpets and doors!

Ian said: “I love quizzes, I ran a pub quiz some years ago and I love raising money for The John Betjeman Centre. I had been running monthly quizzes for a while and then I had the idea for the handout version which we sell for £1.”

When asked how he comes up with the monthly themes he added: “I have a funny brain that just comes up with them all. If you are a quizmaster and haven’t bought one yet - I challenge you to come and try one!"

John Betjeman Centre manager Em Burt said: “We are so proud of Ian for what he is achieving and lucky that he believes in the centre and what we do. His fundraising efforts help us to continue to provide support groups and activities for our local community.

“He is such a character and people love being greeted by him - and being chased if they’ve not bought a copy of the latest quiz!

“A massive thank you to Ian and his quizmaster brain - they are beyond me but I enjoy the word searches that he also creates! Here's to the next 10,000!”

To pick up a copy of the latest quiz pop in to The John Betjeman Centre Monday-Friday 10am-4pm.
