NMMC Partners with Discovering42 for Hands-on Science and Ocean Activities this Half Term

This February half term, National Maritime Museum Cornwall (NMMC) will celebrate science with exciting ocean-themed, hands-on activities, supported by Bodmin’s Discovery42 museum.

Ocean Lab opens at the museum on Saturday 14th February with fizzy whizzy rocket making, artwork creation using robot Scribblebots that move across the page, and a themed museum trail.

From Monday to Friday (February half term), Discovering42’s Mobile Marvels Exhibition will see visitors taking on the challenge of navigating a giant mechanical maze, experimenting with cymatics (sounds and vibration), and even using their bodies to complete an electrical circuit.

Beth Nicholls, Cross Arts Programming Officer at the museum, comments: “We’re very excited to be teaming up with Discovering42, who will wow families with their mind-bending experiments and weird science. Anyone who has been to the Discovering42 museum in Bodmin will know that we are expecting something a little bit special this half term.”

Fizzy Whizzy Rocket Making takes place from 10.30am – 12.30pm during the weekends of half term (14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd February). The Scribblebots will be in action everyday throughout half term, 12.30pm to 3.30pm (last entry 3.15pm). The museum trail is open all day, everyday throughout half term. The Discovering42 Mobile Marvels Exhibition is open Monday to Friday of Half term, 10am-4.30pm.

All activities are included in the cost of admission and there’s no need to book in advance. On paying the admission fee, visitors receive an Annual Pass, enabling them to return as many times as they wish for the following 12 months.
