It’s that time of year again! Last week, the town council’s team were spotted installing snowflakes, bells and all things merry across the town, which can mean only one thing: Launceston’s Christmas lights switch-on is not far away!

At the end of the month, Launceston will be illuminated for yet another festive season, with a series of fun activities throughout town on the evening of Friday, 28th November.
There will be entertainment on the stage in the Square from 4pm, featuring performances from local primary schools, @ThePark choir, Magic Martin, Charlie C’s Dance Classes and other local groups. Launceston Town Band will be spreading cheer with renditions of much-loved carols, while Access Theatre and street performers will be putting on a show across town.
This year, local groups and organisations will be able to take part in a lantern procession through the town, led by no other than Father Christmas (obviously!). The procession will leave Central Methodist Church, taking in Southgate Street, Madford Lane and Westgate Street before finishing in the Square at 6.30pm in time for the official Christmas lights switch-on. The town council are still looking to hear from local organisations, so if you’d like to be part of this fun event, email info@visitlaunceston.co.uk
In addition to all the fun entertainment, many of the town’s shops will be open until 8pm, plus there will be a festive market in the Square, giving you the chance to get your Christmas shopping done in plenty of time. What could be better than having fun with your family and friends, while supporting local businesses?
Over at St Mary Magdalene Church, the annual Christmas tree festival will be getting underway, with carols, festive refreshments and beautifully decorated trees to enjoy. Donations help to keep the church a warm space throughout winter.
So wrap up warm, grab a mulled wine or hot chocolate and enjoy the start of the festivities in Launceston!
