Take on the 24-hour ‘erg-athon’ to support Macmillan

Launceston Health and Fitness Hub members and staff are taking on the ultimate challenge on Saturday, 22nd November as they get ready to row, ski and cycle for 24 hours straight, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Members Nina Sargent, Laura Higgins, Vicky Blundell and Hayley Edwards recently gained their places in HYROX, a fitness race taking place in London in December and Manchester in January 2026. They will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support in the run-up to, and during this almighty challenge.

For 24 hours on Saturday, 22nd November, the rower, ski-erg and bike-erg at Launceston Health and Fitness Hub will be turning continuously. This is something the entire community is encouraged to get behind, whether it’s coming along to cheer on those powering through the gruelling workouts throughout the 24 hours, making a donation, or getting involved with the challenge by signing up for a solo or team shift. Local businesses wanting to sponsor can also donate in exchange for advertising across social media.

Personal trainer John Hiscock and Adam Blacher will be taking on a non-stop 240km challenge across the rower, ski-erg and bike-erg.

The day of the challenge will be a buzz of energy, with a live DJ playing motivating tunes throughout, hot drinks, cake and fresh pizzas served for participants and supporters, fun competitions and events to keep those ergs spinning.

Nina, Laura, Vicky and Hayley are the Lanson team coming together to take on HYROX in December. Nina and Hayley will complete solo challenges, while Laura and Vicky are pairing up to complete the doubles challenge. All monies raised at the erg-athon will be split between the four members’ fundraisers for Macmillan.

Speaking about the motivation behind the challenge, Laura said: “We're raising money for Macmillan because one in two people will be diagnosed with cancer, which means at some point it will be someone we know.

“Macmillan have a dedicated cancer support team, offering support to not only those who are diagnosed, but to their wider family. This is an invaluable resource. By raising money to help keep this running, it will benefit so many people - people we may know who will need it.”

If you would like to sign up to take part in the erg-athon on Saturday, 22nd November, go to Upcomingevents - Booking by Bookwhen. Shifts are just £5 for 15 minutes, and teams can be entered for £15.

Everyone in the community is welcome to support participants on the day, drop some coins into the charity buckets, and join in with the fun atmosphere.
